When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Hi everyone!

I hope y'all are having a great day wherever in the world you are!

Simple question right? But terrifying answers. I have this quote pasted up in my motivation board. Every so often I look at it and wonder when was the last time I did something for the first time. We all are stuck in this monotonous notion called life, well maybe not all, but I know I am. Its the same every morning- I get up, get ready, go to school, come back, eat, do homework, socialise a little, but I never do anything out of the ordinary. It's always the same. Nothing extraordinary, nothing exciting. I'm really not living my life am I?

Then, there are those one off times, when I'm away for camp, or for example, when I was on the exchange, I was always trying something new, putting myself out there. I would have thought that I would have been scared, but truth be told, I have had some of the best experiences when I have stepped out my comfort zone, when I try new things. It can be small things like trying a new cuisine to bigger things like living in a different country with a different family and speaking a different language.

So, I wanna ask you- when was the last time YOU did something for the first time? And if it has been a long time and you have been stuck with the same ordeal of a routine, then step out of it, take a chance and try something new. You won't regret it.

This weekend, is one of those, try-something-new-weekends for me. I'm looking forward to it so much, because I don't know what to expect and I can't wait for the things I'll witness and learn.

I'd love to hear about your last firsts so comment below!

It's the left Flangi- Meeting Strangers and New Experiences.

It's the left Flangi- Meeting Strangers and New Experiences.

Hey everybody! I hope you're having a wonderful day/night where ever it is you are.

So a couple of weeks ago, I travelled internationally for the first time. Let me tell you, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my lifetime. I had this sense of independence and I just felt so free, it was surreal. I am definitely looking forward to doing that again.

During my travels alone, as I was siting at a Starbucks in the transit airport, I saw so many different kinds of people pass by- different, races, colours, ethnicities. It was amazing. Some travelling with family other like me, were alone. Some were travelling for work, other leaving home, some going home, some just going on a holiday. It was a beautiful site to just see so many different kinds of people around me...

The most wonderful part of the experience was being on the plane itself. Of course, before the flight took off, I had the initial fear of- am I going to be able to put my carry on the upper compartment thingy. You see I'm kinda short and my hand just reaches high enough for me to get the job done. Luckily, I didn't embarrass myself in front of so many strangers.

The second thing, I was terrified of was siting next to some random old creep, or in general some very awkward person, on a long ass flight. Not that I'm not an awkward person, but I guess I'm a friendly awkward person. Now, I'm not one for talking the whole flight with a random stranger, but a decent hi-bello feels nice. A small interaction is all. Luckily that didn't happen to me and I sat next to a lovely guy, and we had a pretty decent conversation.

So, there I was sat in my seat when a guy came and sat next to me, we exchanged hellos and that was that. So far so good. The plane was then delayed for an hour and we were stuck in the craft, which was pretty annoying. Me and the guy next to me had made light conversation, so I threw in the Friends reference to Flangi. If any of you know it, I like you. He got it though, so I was a happy camper! I guess that was when we hit it off.

We weren't talking the whole flight, but the parts where we did talk, the chat wasn't daft. I liked it that way. Sometimes you just click with people. I guess that was the case here. We just clicked for the bits we decided to talk on the flight. It was a pretty amazing experience.

I'm a fairly shy person, at least if I don't know the people around me well enough. If I do know you, then hell no, I ain't even close to being shy. That aside, for the first time in forever, I was being me, with this complete stranger. It felt good. I was talking about things, personal to me. Things that actually mattered. The beauty of it was, that I would probably never see him again. I guess that made it easier for me, to be me to an extent. All in all, it was an experience I won't forget. Its been longer than a month, and it just keeps popping into my head. I can't help but think of things to say, if I bump into him. I live in a small city, we could meet, I doubt it though.

I feel like, this little experience of mine, travelling alone was a glimpse into life beyond home. An independent life, where I can get to meet a range of people, explore. I can't wait for them days to come, but as of now, I better come back to the present and get ready for another day of school.

Please comment below about any of your experiences on flight- good bad and ugly, I'd love to read it all.

The slight change of path.

New Things

Hi people of the inter webs, if anyone is reading, which let's be honest I know no one is. Any who, so I feel like I haven't truly committed myself to a healthy lifestyle blog. Still working on that me self, but I really want to write, vent, share my thoughts. Not just health based issues but stuff in general, so, there's been a little teeny weeny change here. This blog is a life blog now, about everything from school, to food, to boys, to just crazy life experiences anything and everything really.

I'll promise to write more.

But for now, I must sleep its pretty late at night and I have just had this epiphany, so like I had to write and make these changes, but any who.

See y'all soon!

MIA- Being healthy mentally

Hi healthy life, 2015 and everything.

I am aware that I haven't posted in the longest time and I have a fair reason- I have been travelling like crazy.

At the end of last year exams hit me like a truck and then I was off and away to France on an exchange program, which was an amazing experience. It taught me so much more about myself and just life in general. Christmas and New years happened and before I knew it I was in India in the middle of January. It was good to be back to a familiar place. Time literally flew, and I travelled alone for the first time and here I am today, attending my first day of year 11.

Last year passed away in the blink of an eye and I can't believe it that next year I'll be out of school. Both excited and scared- shitless.

So yes, while I was on holiday, in the snow, experiencing French life, I did not work-out and indulged in some cheese. Which I believe is fair, I mean, you have to embrace the culture and the lifestyle of the exchange family. Then, I was in India for like a week, jet lagged and with a long list of things I had to do. I ate a little healthier, well I tried but didn't work out. However, now that I am back home, the binge is off and I am back being healthy.

Something I did work on over the holidays was my health, only mentally. Physical health is important, but then again, so is mental health and stability. Now, I have a mental health disease or anything, but this trip changed me in so many ways. It was a trip of lots of first times. It was a trip full of ups and downs, being away from my family and friends and all. but through it all, I got to work on me. I got to know myself better and I got to improve myself. On the really bad homesick days, I learnt to pull myself together and make the most of the experience at hand.

If nothing else, take some time to just work on you. Be a little selfish and nourish yourself and your mind. Take five minutes out of your day, and go hug a friend, tell a joke, smile, tell yourself you're not alone, that you're beautiful and that you're worth it.

I'll be posting more often, or so I'll try about being healthy and ish, so stay tuned.

If anyone actually reads this, then tell me how your Christmas and New Years went!

P.S. I didn't try and snails or frog legs, so glad about that.

Healthy eating during exams.

So, its that time of the year here in Australia where everyone is stressed out because of exams. I for one totally second that. With stress we tend to forget health, exercise and just general life. I have tried to compile healthy foods which I eat during exam revision. They are easy to make, healthy snacks! What more do you want. There are some sweet treats here and there, as a reward but nothing too indulgent.

1. The Trail
Ingredients-
-Peanuts
-Cashew Nuts
-Almonds
-Walnuts
-Pine Nuts
-Pumpkin Seeds
-Dates (if you want)
-Cranberry
-Dark chocolate chips

Just roast the pumpkin and pine nuts in the over for 10-20 minutes. Let it cool, mix with all the other ingredients and munch away while revising.

The best thing about this recipe is that you can make a whole heap at once and it doesn't even take that long. It is very healthy and delicious all the same. I am allowed to take in snacks during the exam and this going to be my staple snack. Also, quick fact, almond is supposed to help remember things, so definitely they that out.

2. The Smoothie
Ingredients-
-Handful of baby spinach
-berries of your choice
-kiwi
-watermelon
-milk/yogurt

Just blend the ingredients and voila! The smoothie is so filling and healthy its full of antioxidants and proteins. I find this to be an amazing kick after coming back from school, or in the morning.

3. Peanut Butter and Carrots/Apple
Ingredients
-Natural peanut butter, feel free to use any other nut butters if you prefer those.
-Carrots
-Celery
-Apple

Just chop up the veggies and fruits with about 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter and eat away.

Again, easy to eat, easy to make, simple and healthy. Perfect snack for exam time.

These are just some real quick and handy recopies which I have been using to keep me going through exam revision. In saying that, I have another whole week of prep and then the exams. I might be a little screwed, but we will see.

Its Lunch Time!

Hey everybody! Not that I am talking to anyone but myself. Still, saying hi makes for a good start. Now, I go to school, so I have to follow a routine. Something I have noticed with diets or balanced eating plans is massive detailed lunches which are not very travel handy. I pack my lunch and recess everyday and I have come up with a staple lunch that I always take. I have been taking it to school for a while now, but I have altered some ingredients to make it more healthier. I switch around my recess a little bit. So, I decided to jot down my lunch and recess schedule, for me.... Ya know, incase I forget.

First up is lunch. I usually take a simple wrap to school. It is very healthy, easy to make, and very travel handy. There is not mess. It has become the perfect lunch time food for me. For the wrap you need-

-a wrap
-salad mix
-lettuce
-carrots
-capsicum
-cucumber
-a dip of your choice
-Paneer (Indian protein source, dry easy to make at home).
-some cheese

Just put in all the ingredients, wrap it up, secure in glad wrap and you are good to go! Feel free to add in chicken or other meats in the wrap, but since I am vegetarian, I don't put them in.

Next up is recess. I vary what I take to recess just to have some interesting stuff going on. These are the recess's I have taken in the past few days-

-Apple, Carrot and half a tea spoon of natural/organic peanut butter.
-Watermelon/Mango/Strawberries/Blue berries
-Plain Greek Yogurt

Again, the recess's are quick to make in the morning, which means extra time in bed and that is always good for me! I like to keep it simple, but appetising!

It's Dinner Time

The first meal to my healthy beginning was dinner. It was a well balanced dinner with proteins, some carbs, fibre and lots of nutrition. I put together this dinner after researching other healthy dinner options. Researching healthy eating ideas is much harder for me, because I am vegetarian and half the recipes out there are non-vegetarian, but nonetheless I take inspiration from my daily environment and try to adapt to my needs.

Being vegetarian is a semi choice, semi I grew up with it. Its not religious but as a child no one in my family ate fish or meat so I was just never introduced to it, and now I am too scared to try it. Its now my choice to be a vegetarian.

Apart from that, I like to whiz in a bit of Indian flavours wherever I can because I am Indian. I love me a bit of those flavours. I think it adds to the plain bland salads and veggies.

The dinner for tonight was- A Petit Forest

This is not a recipe but just a list of ingredients and items I put in the salad.
-Rice 1/2 a cup
-Boiled carrots and broccoli- 1 cup
-Cooked (with Indian spices) cauliflower, tomato, onions, corn and peas- 1 cup worth
-Boiled Lentils- 1/2 cup
-Salad Mix- 1 cup.

It is a wholesome dinner and defiantly leaves you very full and feeling healthy too. Some of the element are not visible because of the plating. I am no chef, so all the plating up and presentation is very basic, so is the food. I am trying out new things and will post, if I find some other amazing dinners.

That was what the dinner look like. Again, I know not the best pictures but the best I could do. Until next time. xx
